Trieste and Miramare Castle

Set off to explore the Miramare Castle, the famous Hapsburg residence overlooking the Miramare Marine Nature Reserve and the picturesque Gulf of Trieste. Just a few minutes’ walk from Trieste Centrale, you can reach a place of timeless charm where history, art and nature come together in the rooms of the 19th-century royal residence and along the paths of the large park that surrounds it.

The Castle can be reached via 6 new daily services on the Regionale train, with a stop at Miramare approximately 150 metres from the park’s side entrance, which is easily accessible on foot by following the signs at the station exit. The Miramare stop can be reached in less than ten minutes from Trieste Centrale and in just under half an hour from Trieste Airport and Monfalcone. Furthermore, the service provides convenient access from stations along the Portogruaro–Cervignano–Trieste Airport line and from Cervignano, linking up with the other Regionale services on the Udine–Gorizia–Trieste line.

• Miramare Castle: built in the mid-19th century at the behest of Maximilian of Hapsburg, it now houses the museum of the same name. The interiors, furnished in the period style befitting the residence of the Archduke of Austria, are fully open to visitors and allow you to immerse yourself in an atmosphere steeped in history and charm.
• Park and Botanical Garden: after your visit, you can stroll along tree-lined paths, through scenic gardens and a park covering 22 hectares which, alongside its Mediterranean vegetation, is home to numerous exotic and rare botanical species.
• Miramare Marine Nature Reserve: an ideal place for those who love nature, the sea and protected areas, offering picturesque views and an immensely rich and valuable ecosystem.
