Our commitment

In November 2025, Trenitalia published the second edition of its Sustainability Report, “A journey into Trenitalia’s sustainability”, to share its progress toward an increasingly sustainable, integrated, and inclusive mobility.

This concise digital document outlines the results achieved and the commitments made to address current environmental and social challenges, placing people, communities, and the future at its core.

“A journey into Trenitalia’s sustainability” describes Trenitalia’s constant dedication to making sustainable choices for the environment, people, and local areas. The goal is to build a new mobility landscape where sustainability generates tangible environmental and social benefits, drives innovation, and strengthens competitiveness.

This commitment is realized through the reduction of emissions and energy consumption, the promotion of circular economy models, and the development of integrated, people-centred transport systems. Our goal is to transform travel into a unique experience that enhances local areas and strengthens the bonds between people and communities, while guaranteeing the right of all individuals to travel with equal opportunities, safety, and comfort.

The document aims to make Trenitalia known not only as a transport company, but above all as a key player that promotes integrated and sustainable mobility, one capable of combining innovation, efficiency and responsibility towards the environment and society.

In 2025, Trenitalia continued the process it began at the end of 2021 by requesting a third assessment from EcoVadis, an internationally recognised rating agency that evaluates corporate ESG - Environmental, Social, Governance - performance in relation to the environment, human rights and labour, ethics and sustainable procurement. 

Trenitalia has been reconfirmed in the Top 5% of companies receiving the Gold Medal, showing improvements across all four rating areas and ranking within the top 1% of railway transport companies evaluated globally. 

This result testifies to Trenitalia’s on-going commitment to sustainable issues. 

Being aware of the central role played by the mobility sector for responsible growth, Trenitalia intends to play an active role in helping to improve quality of life and the areas it connects.

To do this, it is committed to developing a corporate culture oriented towards respecting the principles of sustainable development that affects all levels of the organisation and the management of processes in a responsible manner, in line with the UN 2030 Agenda.

In this spirit, on 5 June 2024, on the occasion of World Environment Day, Trenitalia drafted the Sustainability Manifesto. This commitment to the country and the planet focuses on the awareness of all its people and can be summarised in ten key words that accompany change: attention, courage, closeness, integration, balance, connection, measure, care, regeneration, and non-discrimination.

In the spirit of spreading the principles enshrined in the Manifesto, the Sustainability Grand Tour began on 5 June 2024, allowing us to reach colleagues in the local area and customers aboard our trains. 

The new words in the Sustainability Manifesto, which have been added to the previous ones without modifying them, but rather strengthening them, are: prevention, determination, cohesion, community, commitment, synergy, awareness, accessibility, footprint, reciprocity.
