Class upgrade

You can claim free upgrades for your journeys based on your CartaFreccia status, making every trip an even more comfortable and luxurious experience. Alternatively, you can claim a class upgrade as a reward by using your CartaFreccia points, starting with just 500 points.

With CartaFreccia, you'll immediately receive a free upgrade reward for a unique travel experience dedicated to comfort.
The upgrade reward allows you to transform your ticket from Standard to Business, from 2nd to 1st class and from Business to Executive.
Go to your Customer area and open the reward ticket section, where you will find a free upgrade, choosing from:
- Frecce upgrade for 1st class: to change the ticket from 2nd class to 1st class;
- Frecciarossa Business upgrade: to change the ticket from Standard to Business;
- Frecciarossa Executive upgrade: to change the ticket from Business to Executive.
You just need to have bought a base fare ticket in 2nd, Standard or Business class, for just one person, on just one route and just one train. Upgrades are not permitted on tickets that involve multiple trains with any type of connection.
In addition, each time you reach a higher CartaFreccia status, you will immediately receive another free upgrade. In total, depending on the profile, you will have:
- CartaFreccia: 1 upgrade
- CartaFreccia Argento: 2 upgrades
- CartaFreccia Oro: 3 upgrades
- CartaFreccia Platino: 4 upgrades
- CartaFreccia Platino Infinito: 5 upgrades
Claim the Upgrade as a reward
Starting from 500 points, it is possible to claim a class upgrade, to gift yourself all the comfort of first, business or executive class. CartaFreccia customers who are already in possession of a base (or Corporate) ticket valid for journeys on individual routes can claim the following types of Upgrades for their journeys:
- 500 points - Upgrade from 2nd class to 1st class Frecciargento and Frecciabianca
- 500 points - Upgrade from Standard level to Business Frecciarossa
- 1,000 points - Upgrade from Business level to Executive Frecciarossa

To use the free upgrades that you receive with your CartaFreccia status, buy a Base fare ticket, for just one person, on just one route and one train, in 2nd, Standard or Business class, log in to your Customer Area or the reward catalogue and choose your upgrade, which you have to use before departure.
The CartaFreccia cardholder's personal code must be shown on the ticket. Furthermore, upgrades are only possible for tickets covering a single journey consisting of a single route, subject to seat availability. Therefore, an upgrade cannot be made if a travel solution comprising multiple trains of any type was selected at the time of purchase.
It is not possible to claim an upgrade on CartaFreccia reward tickets or for any other ticket purchased using promotional offers. Trenitalia may limit the availability of reward tickets on certain days and for certain routes.

NOTE: from 1 January 2026 the upgrades available are valid for one year. Free upgrades for statuses cannot be combined when moving from one status to another.
