Nestling in the heart of the Belluno Dolomites, Belluno boasts a picture-perfect scenery. Here, between the streets in the centre and the clear air of the National Park, the pace slows down and winter reveals its most authentic side. From 6 December, new trains from Padua allow you to leave at 8:07 a.m. and arrive in Belluno at 10:15 a.m., with returns at 5:34 p.m. or 6:34 p.m., arriving in Padua at 7:53 p.m. or 8:53 p.m., perfect for a day trip.

Belluno is also easily reached from Venezia Santa Lucia: leaving at 8:43 a.m., you will arrive at 10:47 a.m. and can return with the 5:20 p.m. train, arriving in Venice at 7:17 p.m.
Not far away, Treviso welcomes you with its canals, arcades, and medieval squares, which in winter are filled with a warm and bright atmosphere. It can be reached in about half an hour from Venezia Santa Lucia, or in just 15 minutes from the airport using the Treviso AirLink service.

Nestling in the Piedmont Alps, the Vialattea offers vast, sunny slopes and high-altitude views, perfect for those seeking a day of skiing, relaxation, and fine dining. You can reach Sestriere, Claviere, Cesana, and Sauze d'Oulx with the convenient Vialattea Link, purchasing a train and bus ticket in a single transaction.
On Sundays, for example, you can leave Turin at 7:45 a.m. and arrive in Sestriere at 10:00 a.m. For the return journey, trains are scheduled at 6:04 p.m. and 8:04 p.m., arriving at Torino Porta Nuova at 8:15 p.m. and 10:15 p.m.
If you prefer a journey dedicated to taste and culture, Alba awaits you with its excellent food and wine, and the unique atmosphere of the Langhe. From Turin, you can leave at 9:33 a.m. and arrive at 10:53 a.m., then return with the 7:07 p.m. or 9:07 p.m. trains. The city can be reached easily even from Caselle airport: leaving at 9:00 a.m., you arrive in Alba at 10:53 a.m., returning at 5:07 p.m. or 7:07 p.m.
Travelling on Regionale trains is also convenient for families: children under 4 travel free, and children up to 12 years old pay half price.

Winter boasts a delicate charm in Lucca: the Renaissance walls, perfect for a scenic walk, surround a historic centre rich in music, art and traditions. With trains departing from Florence and Pisa every day, it is easy to plan a day exploring the city. From Florence, you can leave at 8:09 a.m. and arrive at 9:29 a.m., with returns at 4:31 p.m. or 7:31 p.m.; from Pisa, on the other hand, you can leave at 8:50 a.m. and arrive at 9:17 a.m., with returns at 4:42 p.m. or 6:32 p.m.
Moving on to Arezzo, the landscape becomes increasingly gentle, with hills and villages leading to a city rich in history and craftsmanship. From Florence, you can leave at 8:02 a.m. and arrive in Arezzo at 9:12 a.m., with convenient returns in the afternoon. Morning and afternoon trains are also available from Chiusi-Chianciano Terme for a day trip.

Every corner in Tarquinia reveals a piece of ancient history, amidst Etruscan necropolises and museums overlooking the winter sea. From Roma Termini, you can depart at 10:12 a.m. and arrive at 11:27 a.m., then return comfortably on the 6:24 p.m. or 8:24 p.m. trains.
With its castle overlooking the lake, Bracciano is another wonderful destination for a winter getaway. You can leave Roma Ostiense at 8:22 a.m. and reach Bracciano at 9:31 a.m. to enjoy a day filled with nature and culture before returning with the 6:09 p.m. or 7:19 p.m. trains.
In Lazio too, children under 4 years travel free and children up to 12 years old pay half price.

Perugia, a lively and welcoming city, is adorned with lights, markets, and intense flavours during the festive season. If you arrive by train, you can reach the historic centre rapidly using the Minimetrò. Up to 13 direct trains are available from Florence: for example, on public holidays you can leave at 8:02 a.m. and arrive at 10:17 a.m., returning in the late afternoon or evening. From Rome, you can leave at 7:43 a.m. and arrive at 10:57 a.m., returning at 5:50 p.m.
Orvieto, an ancient Etruscan city perched on a tuff rock, comes alive in winter with the backdrop of Umbria Jazz Winter and the “A Natale regalati Orvieto” (Give Orvieto for Christmas) initiatives. Thanks to the Orvieto Link, you can reach the centre by train and funicular with a single ticket. You can leave Florence at 9:04 a.m. and arrive at 11:19 a.m., while the 8:20 a.m. train from Rome reaches your destination at 10:28 a.m.

Between imposing mountains and villages rich in tradition, Abruzzo offers enthralling and authentic winter itineraries. Using the L’Aquila Link, you can reach the historic centre easily by train and bus.
Sunday trains are perfect for a day trip from Pescara, Sulmona and on to L'Aquila: you can leave Pescara at 8:40 a.m. and arrive in Sulmona at 9:56 a.m., returning at 3:57 p.m. or 5:50 p.m. If you wish to continue to L'Aquila, the 8:43 a.m. train from Sulmona reaches your destination at 9:52 a.m., returning at 7:47 p.m.

During the holidays, Salerno shines with its famous Luci d’Artista (Artist Lights), which transform the streets and squares into a luminous path. Until 6 January 2026, more trains are planned on the Salerno-Arechi, Salerno-Caserta and Salerno-Napoli Campi Flegrei routes: on Saturdays and public holidays, there is a train every 30 minutes from 5:30 p.m. to 1:52 a.m. The first departure from Arechi to Salerno is at 6:29 a.m., while the last return journey from Salerno is at 1:05 a.m.
A short distance away, Caserta welcomes you with the majesty of its Royal Palace, which in winter is bathed in tranquillity and elegance. Thanks to the Caserta Link, you can reach the historic centre  (Casertavecchia) easily by train and bus and purchase your entire trip on this website in a single transaction.

Winter is steeped in tradition and the sea in Bari, amid the streets of the old city, the waterfront, and the Christmassy atmosphere of Via Sparano. You can reach the capital easily from  Foggia, leaving at 9:32 a.m. and arriving at 11:21 a.m.
Moving on to Lecce, the “Lady of the Baroque” welcomes you with Piazza Sant’Oronzo, the Duomo, the Basilica of Santa Croce and its papier-mâché workshops. You can leave Bari at 9:02 a.m. and arrive at 10:45 a.m., returning in the evening with the 5:20 p.m. or 6:17 p.m. trains.
Regionale trains are also affordable as, in Apulia, children under 10 travel for free.
