Furthermore, the company has created The Security Management System, a relevant service geared towards the prevention of risk and at direct intervention in dangerous situations and accidents. In this area, Trenitalia has proved that it follows the highest international standards being a leader within the European Union for train security.

Firstly, the company is promoting programmes and activities geared towards managing prevention using technical and organisational terms. Plans have been put in place in this area to adjust plant, machinery and equipment. Plans have also been implemented for environmental management and security in the workplace, in addition to specific tasks to analyse and monitor the key elements of security at work.

Secondly, many company initiatives are focused on personnel. Campaigns aimed at security at work, involving all key company systems, have been organised in 2003 and in the current year for all employees totalling in excess of 32,000. Initiatives to train and provide a deeper understanding of security at work have continued with the aim of spreading a culture of security throughout the company.
