GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS

The ETR 500 is Italy's high-speed train, designed to travel at 300 km/h. It can use all of the electrified lines of the network, providing greater passenger comfort than the traditional trains.

There are 57 ETR 500 trains in service in Italy, of which more than half are multiple-voltage.

The multiple voltage ETR 500 locomotives can use both the Italian lines and the bordering networks which use this system, such as, for example, the French one.
With high speed, the multiple voltage trains will be able to travel along the new 25kVac lines and on the traditional 3kVdc electrified lines: this is why Trenitalia has launched a plan to modernise its fleet that - among other things - envisages the purchase of new multiple voltage locomotives, a new signalling system to enhance passenger safety, and other works that will improve the travel experience.
The stylistic and overall design of the train was completed in co-operation with designer Pininfarina. The use of the "wind tunnel" allowed for an aerodynamic optimisation of the convoy.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

The ETR 500 has climatised 1^st and 2^nd class carriages. Both classes have open overhead luggage compartments and every seat has its own individual light.

The 12 intermediate carriages currently have a seating capacity of 671: indeed, to ensure a more efficient service which suits the needs of its customers, in 2004 Trenitalia completed the addition of the 12th carriage on all ETR 500 trains.

In first-class, you can book two exclusive Business Areas: genuine "mini lounges" made up of closed bays, each with 4 armchairs, table and 220V socket for lap-top computers.
