Available all the year, the "Motorbike on board" service is offered by Trenitalia on the main night connections in Italy and abroad , in particular on all the trains that already offer the Car On Board service.
You can travel with your motorbike starting from 17 cities to comfortably and safely reach Italy's main areas.

Booking of the Motorbike on board service is compulsory and can be done only from the station ticket desks or from the travel agencies approved for the service.
Bookings can be made from 2 months (3 months, for departures between 1 June and 30 September) until 7 hours before departure. . Bookings are allowed of up to 8 motorcycles per train.
Depending on the places available, customers may be accepted without booking from seven hours before the train's departure until the time limit for loading the motorbikes.

You can also immediately book your return journey, provided it is to be made within three months from the date of the request (4 months, for departures during the period 1 June – 30 September).
In special cases of variation in the services of the trains, and in the event of the periodical change of the train timetable, the booking times may be shorter.
To use the service, together with the motorcycle slip, you must buy or own a ticket valid for the same section. The tickets must be shown during loading check-in.. 



When buying the slip, you must notify the ticket office operator or agency the dimensions of your motorcycle as they are shown on its registration document.

The following motorcycles are eligible for transport:
• ones registered and in efficient state of working order
• ones with a maximum height above ground of 1.56 m (including any windshield) and a maximum width of 85 cm (including any panniers or top boxes)
• equipped with stand.

Attention: the following scooters and motorbikes of all engine capacities cannot be taken on board:


The boarding times (stated also on the motorcycle slip) vary depending on the train used. They can be read in the connections section of this website.
The motorcycle loading and unloading operations are performed only by customers providing they pay strict attention to the requests and warnings of the railway personnel.
Before accessing the carriages, motorcycle owners must put on their helmets, which must be properly secured, and ride their motorcycles keeping head down, to the place indicated by Trenitalia personnel.
The personnel in charge will deal with anchoring the motorcycle on the carriage.

When coming to pick up their motorcycles, customers must show the Trenitalia personnel the documents requested (motorcycle slip, and ticket. If the traveller uses a different train, the person delegated to picking up a motorcycle must show a proxy, copy of the motorcycle slip, a valid identity document and a copy of the owner's valid identity document).

The unloading operations start after about 60 minutes from the train's arrival.


The service is active from when the motorcycle is fastened to the railway carriage until when it is released (it therefore does not include the motorcycle loading and unloading operations).
Coverage is for a ceiling of 5,000.00 euro per motorbike and 250 euro per item of luggage secured firmly to the motorbike.

Coverage does not include: credit-debit cards, coins, stamps, documents, items made of precious or semi precious materials, items having art value, antiques, collectable items; plants and live animals, perishable goods or goods needing to be transported at controlled temperatures, explosives, tobacco, leathers and hides.

Travellers who have suffered damage to their motorcycles during the railway transport - or the theft of luggage permanently fastened to their motorcycles - must immediately notify Trenitalia's personnel.

For cases of theft of luggage, travellers must also submit a police statement to this effect within 3 days after train arrival.
