The accessibility project was conceived with the objective to design a portal that, as well as improving performances and graphics, is in conformity with the current guidelines of accessibility and well disposed to contain future legislation.

The www.trenitalia.com portal is therefore designed and realized following the WCAG 1.0 guidelines provided in the WAI international standard of the W3C, in harmony with the accessibility requisites of WCAG-AAA. Further, the control points of the Technical Verification defined by the Law of 19 January 2004 n°4 "Dispositions favouring the access of disabled persons to information system tools", although in a minimum part in fase of optimisation, were assimilated and applied.

For the definition of the layout structure, tables were not utilized and the paging was solely based upon stylized sheets.

To improve the usability of the portal, some Accesskeys (rapid access keys) were defined in order to rapidly reach a specific link through the pressing of a sequence of keys. These "shortcuts" are can be activated in a Windows environment with the sequence "Alt + Accesskey" and in a Macintosh environment with the sequence "Ctrl + Accesskey".

As the objective of complete accessibility is an end to strive for rather than an arrival point, there are pages in the portal that do not conform to the cited standards.

Whilst overcoming these shortcomings in the meantime, we invite you to notify us of any irregularities in order to allow us to intervene in a timely manner.
