Useful information

TIMETABLE - TICKETS PURCHASE

Key in departure and arrival stations, date and departure time to:
see the European railway timetables with the main international connections
buy tickets for international trains from Italy to outside Italy and back
buy tickets for the main trains connecting to European countries

If the city/departure station or the city/arrival station are not recognised or not well identified, you will be prompted to try again. If date and time of departure are not specified, the system automatically sets the data starting from the date and time you make the search.

JOURNEY PROPOSALS

After running searches for the train, the system identifies and presents all the possible journey proposals.

The listed proposals are ordered by departure time; by using the other buttons, you can check the proposals available also according to the Journey time or Number of changes.

For all proposal times, indications are given of departure and arrival times, durations, the change stations and train category (for example EuroCity, EuroNight etc.). For more information on a journey proposal, simply click on Details in the Info column.

If the Buy column in a journey solution contains the cart icon, you can buy that ticket on-line (every day, 24 hrs). To start the buying procedure now, click the cart; if the first proposals that appear do not meet your journey requirements, you can view Other proposals, make new searches with the Search button or change the journey data with Change journey data selection.
If you want to view the timetables for the return journey, you must click the Show return button.

For journeys that cannot be bought on-line, i.e. those in the Buy column with NO, you must apply directly at the station or a travel agency with which Trenitalia has a distribution agreement.
By clicking on the icon of the cart instead, you are taken to the summary of the journeys selected and put into the cart while awaiting purchase confirmation.

JOURNEY DETAILS

This page indicates the type of train and the train number, the time and departure station, the time and arrival station, the services available on the train and if compulsory booking is required.
You can also check the intermediate journey stops by clicking on the train's identity number.

If you're happy with the journey proposal and its ticket can be bought on-line, you can purchase by clicking Acquista. . To see alternative proposals, you can proceed by clicking the buttons Next Solution or Search

FARES CHOICE

In the FARES CHOICE age, you can select the fare desired. Before making your selection, you can obtain more information on the fares available for that type of train or journey solution by clicking on the link: Information on fares.

After selecting the chosen fare, simply indicate the number of adults and children passengers (the total number of the places must not be more than 5) and select the journey class.

On the international overnight trains at the normal price, the prices vary depending on the accommodation chosen (seat, 6-place, 4-place couchettes, 3-place Wagon Lits, double or single) and not on the journey class.

If you want to add another fare, click on the Add button.

Please note: if you are buying at a discount or under a concession, you cannot add another purchase with the same discounted tariff.
In order to buy with the same discount for more persons, you must select a new journey. The selection previously made with the discount is put into the cart while awaiting purchase confirmation.

SERVICES PREFERENCES

The section relating to Services Preferences is optional and lets you query the system to request the type of place you want, which is assigned only if available. By clicking on the drop-down menu, you can select a place close to the window or aisle, and/or the bed or couchette you prefer. The system does not guarantee that the place chosen is actually assigned as this depends on the availability of places on the selected train.

TICKET DELIVERY/PICK UP

Before moving on to complete your purchase, please select your ticket's delivery solution. For delivery/pick up of international tickets bought on-line, Trenitalia offers 2 solutions:
ticket pick-up at the self-service points of Italy's main stations , for free.
home delivery only for Italy, a service that is charged for.

Please note: you can choose the home delivery option only if you buy tickets at least 8 days in advance with respect to the departure date

Pick up at the self-service ticket distributor in Italy's main railway stations
Picking up your ticket from the self-service ticket distributors is free and has the advantage of being available until just before train departure.
Before choosing to pick up your ticket from a self-service distributor, check first that there is a distributor in the departure station or pick up point (list of stations).If there is no distributor at the departure station, your ticket can be picked up also from the station ticket office, if open.
To pick up your ticket from the station self-service distributor, you will need:
- the PNR booking code received via e-mail after on-line purchasing
- the name and surname used when buying,
- on the screen of the self-service teller, select the "Internet" button and follow the simple issuing procedure.


Home delivery only for Italy
The home delivery is made by registered letter and involves an additional cost of 3.25 euro, plus the ticket price. The delivery requires from 4 to 6 days and takes place only on weekdays and only in Italy. .
Please check straight away that the ticket matches the purchase transaction made. If the ticket does not arrive, or in the event of any other problems, please contact our Call Center on 89 20 21
Please note
For all purchases made on the same day starting from 6.30 until 23.30, the delivery fee will be charged only once, but only provided the delivery destination information remains the same.

LOG IN

After clicking the Continue , button, the system requires you to complete the fields User-Id and Password, in order to log in. If you still do not have a User ID and Password, you can click the link "if you're not yet registered, you can do so now" and go ahead with registration. If you have lost your Password, click the link "Forgotten your Password" and type in your e-mail address to receive a new one in your e-mail box.

PURCHASE SUMMARY

This page contains the summary of the data - (which can no longer be changed unless by returning to the previous page) - on the chosen journey proposal. It indicates the departure date and time, the departure and arrival stations, the number of passengers, the train class, and the price. .
It also states that if the purchase does not take place within 14 minutes, the booked place will be made available again.

DETAIL OF TRAINS, PLACES AND FARES

This part provides the journey details on the type of the train, type of place/seat, the number of the place/seat assigned and the carriage, the chosen fare, the name of the international fare applied, and of the National Italian fare

THE CART

This is the section where you can display the journeys you have selected and put into your cart before proceeding to make payment. The information in the cart regards the date, times, the departure and arrival stations and the amount to pay for the selected journey.
The Delete Delete button will remove the previously selected journey. That journey will not therefore be kept in the transaction. By clicking the New Journey button, you can select a new journey or, with the Return Journey button, select the tariff for the return journey (the system keeps the departure and arrival stations while you must select the return date).

If you do not need to select another journey solution, you can go to check-out and make only one transaction.

BOOKING CHANGE (CP)

You cannot make online Booking Changes of the international tickets bought on this site.


REFUNDS

Tickets purchased on-line are refunded to the credit card used for the purchase transaction.
No bonus vouchers are issued (as an alternative to refunds) for tickets purchased on-line.
If the ticket has not yet been picked up, you must make a telephone request - only before departure - to the Call Center 89 20 21 or send an e-mail to: rimborsi@trenitalia.it stating the PNR code of the tickets to refund, or use the "Request a refund on-line" function found in the "Customers Area" of this site. In this latter case, the refund is possible only for journey cancellation due to customer's requirements and for the total purchase made both for the route and the number of travellers.
If the ticket has been picked up, the holder can go to any ticket office and present a written request for a refund before departure. The office will forward it to Trenitalia - Rimborsi - Viale dello Scalo San Lorenzo, 16 - 00185 Rome.
After the train's departure, in cases where refunds after departure are allowed, the requests must be sent to one of the Trenitalia ticket desks.
Refunds are granted provided that the ticket office or Customer Assistance Office has stated on the ticket that is cannot be used until 3 hours after the booked train's departure (or until 24 hours afterwards if the departure ticket desk is not staffed or temporarily closed)
If the ticket bought online arrives late by the surface mail home delivery service, customers are entitled to a full refund of the amount paid by applying in writing to - Trenitalia - Rimborsi - Viale dello Scalo San Lorenzo, 16 - 00185 Roma, enclosing any ticket in their possession. To establish whether tickets were delivered late, the parameter used is the date and time stamped on the return receipt of the registered letter the tickets were delivered with.
Tickets bought by credit card are refundable only by showing the credit card used for the purchase.

Refunds for individual travellers: the limit of 8.00 € below which refunds are not granted does not apply except for the tickets issued at the TCV tariff. No provision is made for refunds of partially-used tickets except for the tickets issued at the TCV tariff.

If the ticket has not been stamped, you can ask for the refund:
- before the first day of validity without having the non-used stamp placed by the station ticket desks
- within one month from the validity expiry with the required not-used stamp, which must be requested at the station ticket desks.

- within 30' from stamping, only at the departure station



Refunds for groups
: the limit of 8.00 € below which refunds are not granted does not apply except for the tickets issued at the TCV tariff. No provision is made for refunds of partially-used tickets except for the tickets issued at the TCV tariff.

*Tickets at special or promotional fares (e.g. Smart) are not refundable. Other reduced fares can have different deduction charge percentages.

SECURE PAYMENT SYSTEM

The on-line ticket purchasing system uses the most up-to-date security technology available today for web transactions. To pay train tickets purchased on-line, passengers can use credit cards, the Bankpass Web service or the prepaid CartaFacile cards. .

Credit card payment
Trenitalia avails itself of the "e-shopping SANPAOLO" secure payment system, conceived and managed by the Sanpaolo-Imi bank group. "e-shopping SANPAOLO" allows on-line purchases to be made in greatest ease and with fullest guarantee of security and privacy. The transactions are indeed not conducted with instruments managed by Trenitalia but through the servers using the secure technology of the Sanpaolo-Imi bank group.
After making payment, a message appears confirming the transaction on a page of the Trenitalia site.
Any appearance of notices from the browser indicate you are being redirected to a non-secure server will therefore be exclusively a simple confirmation by Trenitalia of a successful transaction.

Payment by Visa and MasterCard

To guarantee greatest security, the international Visa and MasterCard circuits require for credit card transactions that the following check precaution be respected:
the typing in of a three-digit security number on the back of the credit card, near the area reserved for the signature.
the authentication by the customer on the appropriate pop up, managed directly by Bankpass, using data that have been given previously to that same customer by the card issuer ("Verified by Visa" and "SecurCode" standard).

Payment by Bankpass Web

To make payment by the Bankpass Web service, one must first subscribe to the service through the site www.bankpass.it
To go ahead with your purchase, type in your User-ID and password (assigned when registering) to access your virtual wallet and select the payment tool you want to use (credit card, "Soldintasca" prepaid card and cash point): the transaction can be completed without the data of the credit/debit card passing through the Internet A confirmation e-mail will be sent after all transactions made through the wallet.


Information on-line about Bankpass Web

Payment with prepaid CartaFacile

Prepaid CartaFacile is the electronic money (that uses confidential numerical codes, the "Prepaid number" and the "Secure Key") issued by an authorised financial intermediary or bank. The Card allows payments to be made through the Internet using the "CartaFacile" circuit.

Prepaid CartaFacile does not require you to open any current account, it ensures anonymity in payments and is protected by the most effective security systems. The shopping credit of a single pre-paid card issued in pre-determined amounts, can never exceed 500 euro.
To make purchases using a prepaid CartaFacile, you must first be recognised as a member of the CartaFacile circuit by keying in your card's pass number, the details on expiry date and the password chosen when enabling the card.
After paying from a special page of the CartaFacile circuit, the message confirming transaction success will instead appear on a page of Trenitalia. Any appearance of notices from the browser informing you that you're being redirected to a non-secure server will therefore be exclusively a simple confirmation by Trenitalia of a successful transaction.

Please note
For payment systems to work properly, you must use a version of the browser (Netscape or Explorer) which is 4.0 or later, and in which the "cookies" function is enabled. In the event of a transaction being unsuccessful we recommend repeating the on-line booking and purchasing procedure from the beginning. You can do this by selecting "Timetable - Tickets purchase" from the main menu of the Trenitalia site and not the "Back" button of your browser.

The data on payment of tickets bought cannot be acquired or processed in any way by Trenitalia, because transactions are managed by the server of the Sanpaolo-Imi bank group in a protected and secure environment.


Invoice Issuance
If you want to buy tickets on-line by credit card, please note that it is currently not possible to have an invoice issued. If you however need an invoice, you can obtain one by selecting the self-service delivery solution and request it at the ticket office immediately after ticket pick-up.

STATUS PENDING - TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF BUYING PROCEDURE

If two consecutive buying procedures are unsuccessful, the system will suspend service for 15 minutes.

CAUSES OF USER STATUS DISABLING

Your user status can be disabled in the following cases:

1. When registering (or when accessing the members area in the Customers Area), if you type in incorrect User ID and Password more than 5 times

2. When making payment if:
- you type in the credit card number incorrectly more than twice
- you use more than two credit cards as the same user
- your credit card is used by more than two different users
- if malfunctions occur in the bankpass system more than twice while you are making payment
- you use a credit card associated to a user that has been disabled
- your payment takes you over the monthly spending limit of your credit card
- the overall amount paid by the credit card you are using exceed the monthly allowed spending limit (516.16 Euro)

ATTENTION - Requests for reinstatement can be made ONLY via web , y filling in the form in the reserved Customers Area, by using your User ID and password.

CUMULATIVE PURCHASES

If several tickets are purchases (single, return, other journey proposals etc.) that must be delivered on the same date to the same person at the same address, a single home-delivery cost will be applied of 3.25 euro irrespective of the number of tickets purchased.

If one or more tickets are to be delivered to different persons at different addresses, the normal delivery surcharge of 3.25 euro will be applied for each individual ticket.

MAXIMUM MONTHLY SPENDING

For safety reasons the value of the tickets purchased in a month cannot exceed 516.46 Euro.
Registered customers can check on the amounts spent in a month on their own "Orders Summary" page, which you can access from the Customers Area.

HOW TO INCREASE YOUR MONTHLY SPENDING LIMIT

If you expect of exceed the monthly spending limit associated to your user profile, you can request an extension but ONLY by fax to 06/44104036 in which you indicate:

- your User ID,
- a contact telephone number
- a photocopy of a valid identity document
- a photocopy of your tax code number
- A brief explanation of why you want to increase your spending limit or to be authorised to use more credit cards

Within 48 hours you will receive the outcome of your request on your e-mail address 


HOW TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF CREDIT CARDS YOU CAN USE

If, with your user status, you intend to use more than two credit cards, you can apply for authorisation but ONLY by a fax to 06/44104036 in which you indicate:

- your User ID,
- a contact telephone number
- a photocopy of a valid identity document
- a photocopy of your tax code number

SELF-SERVICE TICKET DISTRIBUTOR

The self-service distributors (see photo) are automatic ticket machines, installed in Italy's main railway stations (see list below) and can be used to pick up tickets bought on-line following a simple procedure that entails envisages keying in the name and surname used for the purchase and the booking code (PNR).
