"PVTrain - Innovative Technologies for solar-based applications in the railway sector", the project for the environmental protection worked out and developed by the the Italy's state railways group, was awarded the prize of "Best of the Best Life Environment Projects 2006" as the best the European environmental projects for the transport sector .

The prestigious recognition, assigned by the European Commission , adds to the "Giancarlo Merli" prizes for high value of the environmental initiative of 2002 and "Impresa - Ambiente", assigned by the Ministry of the Environment and Manufacturing Business in 2006.

PVTRAIN, co-financed by the European community, is a wholly innovative project that for the first time in the railway sector, applies photovoltaic technology, , succeeding in greatly reducing the emission of greenhouse gas into the atmosphere and enhancing the already-big environmental value of railway transport with respect to other transport modes.
