ESSENTIAL SERVICES IN THE EVENT OF STRIKES (Italian Law No.146 of 12 June 1990)

On strike days, Trenitalia guarantees minimum transport services, which have been planned pursuant to agreements with the trade union organisations and deemed suitable by the Guarantee Commission for implementation Law 146/1990.

In local transport in particular, essential services have been guaranteed during the peak time bands (from 06:00 to 09:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00 on weekdays ). Some long-distance trains are also guaranteed on working- and non-working days.

The trains that are travelling when strikes begin, if they were not cancelled at their origin station, will normally arrive at their final destination if it can be reached within one hour after the strike's beginning; after this the trains can terminate their service at stations before their final destinations.

In addition to the essential services, Trenitalia can guarantee additional services which are suitably publicised by way of notices in the railway stations, through the media and on this website.

During a strike, unpredictable changes could occur (e.g. changes to routes for long-distance trains), so passengers are advised to pay utmost attention to all notices given in the stations and the media.
