The exhibition Cézanne in Florence - two collectors and the exhibition of Impressionism in 1910 represents one of the most important events from among those promoted by the Ministry for Cultural Assets with the "Magnifico" project, of which Trenitalia has been a partner from the outset. Florence can vaunt playing a pre-eminent role in Paul Cézanne’s artistic adventures thanks to the farsightedness of two American-born collectors: Egisto Paolo Fabbri and Charles Loeser. Between the 19th and 20th centuries they bought and collected in their Florentine homes about 50 of the master's best works, thereby contributing to the acclaim of a genius who is today acknowledged as the “father of modern painting”.
For the first time the Florence exhibition brings together the most noteworthy works of the Fabbri and Loeser collections, which were dismantled in the inter-war years. The exhibits are also flanked by loans from the world's most important museums (New York’s Metropolitan, London's National Gallery and Royal Academy, St. Petersburg’s State Hermitage, Washington’s National Gallery of Art, and the modern art galleries of Florence and Rome) as well as from private collections such as the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collections.
The event therefore represents a unique opportunity for admiring, all together, tens of masterpieces that are otherwise spread around the world. Some are on view for the first time in Italy, others are not normally accessible to the general public.
Holders of the Trenitalia CartaViaggio, monthly/annual Travel Cards, and rail tickets with Florence as destination stamped on the day of visiting the exhibition, are entitled to a reduced entrance fee (8.50 instead of 10 euro).
