To travel by international trains with departure or arrival stations in Italy, you must buy a normal-price ticket including seat reservation. Your ticket is valid for the day and train booked and must not be validated before departure. You can generally buy it at most 120 days before the date chosen for the journey.

Only for routes not served by international trains at the normal price, open-date tickets (TCV)may be purchased. The open-date tickets are valid 2 months from the date chosen by you for the journey (indicated on the ticket by the issuing desk) and must be validated before departure by the stamping machines provided in the stations. If you forget to stamp your ticket, you must go to the on-board personnel before train departure to avoid paying a surcharge.
