BASE

This Basic or Standard ticket is the reference used when calculating all discounts and surcharges.

For the services of: AV, ES*, ES* City, IC, ICN, Express, Couchette, WL, Excelsior and Excelsior E4.

Bookings

Issued at the same time as the ticket.

Booking changes

You can change your bookings only once from the day of purchase and until one hour after the booked train's departure

The new booking must be for a journey that will be made in the time period allowed (more information)

Before departure you can make booking changes:

•  on-line on this site;

•  at the self-service tellers in the stations;

•  by calling the issuing agency or Trenitalia's Call Centers (fee-paying numbers);

•  at the station ticket desks or the authorised travel agencies (for ticketless tickets only at the agency where the ticket was bought);

•  on the platform for the Frecciarossa and Frecciargento trains;

•  directly on your mobile phone at the conditions applicable for the ProntoTreno service

You can request the booking change of tickets for an ES* or AV train for the same journey, irrespective of which of these trains is used, only before departure, provided the price is the same or lower, but without right, in the latter case, to refund of the extra amount paid. The booking change is free. Agencies may charge a commission for this service.

You can ask for the booking change for the same route, price, class and all other conditions also from an Aquarium train to an ES* City train.

When changing bookings you must notify the booking codes (PNR and CP) which are printed on the ticket or which were sent to you by email when buying; it is important to receive confirmation that the change has actually been made.

For Ticketless tickets the same procedure applies, but the booking changes are made only with the ticketless procedure (you cannot pick up the coupon of the new booking at the self-service points). In this case you will be sent a confirmation e-mail for requests made on-line or you will be given confirmation by the ticket office operator or by the Call Center (by the operator or the automatic response service) or the details of the new booking are displayed on the screen if using a self-service machine. When changing bookings online or through our Call Center , on your request, your confirmation can be sent to you also by SMS.

If you have chosen to pick up the ticket at the self-service machines (not applicable for Ticketless tickets), you can pick up the new booking at the self-service machines in the stations (by typing in the PNR and CP codes) or, if this is not possible, at the station ticket desks, as well as at the approved travel agencies or the Eurostar FrecciaClub rooms (for Freccia Oro and Platino card holders). In this case, when on the train you must always show the on-board personnel the original ticket and the new booking coupon.

After departure you can request booking changes only at the ticket office, the self-service machines or on the platforms (for the Frecciarossa and Frecciargento trains), in the departure station of the train indicated on the ticket. The same procedure applies also to Ticketless tickets.

Ticket change

You can change only once from the day of purchase and until one hour after the booked train's departure

You can make ticket changes, by paying any price difference, before departure at any ticket office and authorized travel agency. After departure only at a ticket desk in the departure station of the train indicated on the ticket.

If the price payable is less than the sum already paid, a refund if given of the difference, with application of the regulations provided for the type of ticket being changed.

Changes for lower amounts are not allowed for tickets bought on this site or through our Call Center : in this case you can request the change by going to the ticket office but only after picking up the ticket at a self service machine. No provision is made for ticket changes with the ticketless procedure: changes for equal or higher amounts must be requested at a ticket desk or the issuing agency.

Refunds

If you simply want to cancel your journey, you can apply for a refund:

•  before the train's departure, by going to any station ticket desk or at the travel agency you bought it from, with a deduction charge of 20%.

•  after the train's departure and until one hour after, by going only to the departure- or ticket-issuing station or to the issuing agency; you cannot however apply at the issuing station if it is the same as the journey's arrival station. Refunds are granted with a deduction charge of 50%.

If you apply for a refund of a ticket issued after the date change made after the departure of the originally-booked train, then the deduction charge is 50%.

Refunds are not given if journeys are simply interrupted.

Refunds are not allowed on tickets of less than or equal to 10 euro for each traveler.

If a ticket is not used due to causes ascribable to Trenitalia, a full ticket refund is given.

Passengers must however always show a valid identity document.

For tickets bought on-line and not yet picked up or issued with the ticketless procedure you can, only before departure, request a refund, by using the function of on-line refund on this website (only for refunds of the total purchase made), by applying to our Call Center (fee-paying numbers) or by sending an e-mail to rimborsi@trenitalia.it

After departure, passengers cannot receive the refund of tickets bought on-line and not yet picked up, or of ticketless tickets. If you have asked to change a booking after the train's departure, the ticket for the new journey will be non-refundable.

After pick up (this does not apply to ticketless solutions), you must show the printed ticket before departure at any station ticket counter; after departure only at the ticket desk of the departure or issuing station (provided it is not the arrival station), which will forward it to the appropriate office.

Refunds are made by a re-credit to the credit card used for the purchase.

For ticketless tickets bought at a travel agency you can request a refund only before departure, at the issuing agency or at ticket desks, or if the agency is closed, from a ticket desk or our Call Center (fee-paying numbers), which will authorize the refund to be made subsequently by the agency. Refunds are granted after taking a photocopy of your ID document.

Access to other trains

With the Basic ticket, for the same route you can also directly board other trains of the same category from one hour before and until one hour after the departure of the booked train, by paying a surcharge of 8 euro. You must however approach the on-board conductor as soon as possible. If you apply for a class-change or board a different category train for the same route, again within the same terms, you must pay the difference between the full price for the train used and the sum already paid, plus an 8 euro surcharge.

If, within the terms provided for, there are no other trains of the same type, you can travel at same conditions stated above also afterwards on the first train of the same or lower category that is available for reaching your destination.

If the amount already paid is the same or higher than the one owed for the train used and the surcharge, you will not be charged any fine but you will not have the right to a refund of any extra sum you may have paid. If you travel in a different time band to the one allowed, you will be considered as having no ticket.

If you have a ticketless ticket, you cannot travel on the regional and international trains and if found on one of these trains, you will be considered as travelling without a ticket.

If you are a Travelcard holder using a higher-category train but you do not have the appropriate service change for travelcard holders or the date of the service change has passed, you will have to pay the service change plus an 8 euro

Access to other trains

If you have a Flexible ticket, for the same route you can also travel directly on another train of the same category on the same day and until 24 hours after the booked train's departure without paying any penalty. You must however stamp the printed ticket and approach the on-board conductor at the first opportunity.

If you apply for a class-change or if you board a different category train for the same route, again within the same terms, you must pay the difference between the full price for the train used and the sum already paid, plus an 8 euro surcharge. If the amount already paid is the same or greater than that owed for the train used, you will not be charged a fine but you will not have the right to a refund of any sum you may have paid extra.

If, within the terms provided for, there are no other trains of the same type, you can travel at same conditions stated above also afterwards on the first train of the same or lower category that is available for reaching your destination.

If you travel in a different time band to the one allowed, you will be considered as having no ticket. If you have a ticketless ticket, you cannot travel on the regional and international trains and if found on one of these trains, you will be considered as travelling without a ticket.

CARTA BLU

This offer is for holders of the Carta Blu (for disabled persons entitled to mobility or communication allowance).

The card lets the holder buy just one ticket - the full Base ticket for the train used - which is valid for the holder and his/her accompanying adult. However, when using Eurostar Italia Alta Velocità, Eurostar Italia , Eurostar City Italia, or the wagon lits or couchette services, one ticket is issued, valid for two persons, the amount of which is equal to the price of the service requested plus a service change at full price. The conditions of the Base ticket apply

When on board, as well as the journey ticket, you must show the Blue card and a valid ID document of the Card holder.

CARTA VERDE DISCOUNT

Customers aged over 12 and under 26 can buy the "Carta Verde” by showing an identity document. It costs 40 euro and is valid for a year.

The card is nominative, is issued in conjunction with the international Railplus card, and entitles passengers to:

  • 10% off the prices of the Base (standard) ticket in both first and second class on all trains and Wagon Lits and couchettes. Exclusions are the Excelsior and Excelsior E4 carriages and the additional services (catering, car on board etc.);
  • application of the "Card" reduction (about 25% off the Adult/Standard fare) on all international connections at full prices having departure/destination stations in Italy (except for the Elipsos "Salvador Dalì" and Artesia trains);
  • 25% off all the international European connections at TCV tariff for the routes of the railway companies taking part in the Railplus offer. Seat bookings and couchette and WL supplements are payable in full.

CARTA ARGENTO DISCOUNT

If you are 60 years or over, by showing an identity document, for 30 euro you can buy the "Carta d'Argento" (if 75 or over, it is free) which is valid for a year. This card is issued in conjunction with the international Railplus card and entitles customers to:

•  15% off in both first and second class on the prices of the Basic (standard) ticket on trains used and 10% off the price for the Wagon Lits and couchettes. The discount does not apply on Excelsior and Excelsior E4 carriages, nor to the additional services (catering, car on board etc.).

•  application of the reduced "Card" fare (about 25% off the Adult/Standards fare) on all international connections at full prices having departure/destination stations in Italy (except for the Elipsos "Salvador Dalì" and Artesia trains);

NON FS PERSONNEL ADMISSION CHARGE

This offer applies to holders of CLC and other similar tickets of 1st and 2nd class valid for travelling on Intercity, for boarding the AV, ES*, ES*city trains. The conditions of the Base ticket apply. When on board, as well as the admission ticket, you must also show the CLC (or other similar ticket) and a valid ID document of the holder. .

FS PERSONNEL ADMISSION CHARGE

Reserved for FS (Italian State Railways) personnel holding CLC, FS or Smart Cards for travelling on ES*, ES* City and AV trains. The conditions of the Base ticket apply. When on board, as well as the ticket, you must show the CLC FS or Smart Card or other similar ticket.

SPECIAL CONCESSION III FOR ISOLATED JOURNEYS

You can use this journey Concession if you are sight-impaired and hold a mod. 28/C (valid 5 years). You must also have a dedicated application form (mod. 28) for the isolated journeys of your accompanying adult.

The Special Concession III allows 20% off the ordinary fare for isolated journeys. Added to this is the service change at full price when using the IC, ICN, ES*, ES* City, AV trains, and the couchette and Wagon Lits services.

If instead the holder travels with the accompanying person, the concession allows ticket issuance for the train used as valid for two persons. When travelling by ES*, ES* City, AV or by couchette or WL, one ticket is issued, valid for two persons, which amounts to the price of the service requested plus a service change at full price.

The Excelsior and Excelsior E4 carriages are excluded from the reductions

The conditions for the Base ticket are applied to tickets issued under this offer.

When on board, as well as the journey ticket, you must show the "Mod. 28/C" pass and a valid identity document of both the sight-impared customer and his/her accompanying companion.

SPECIAL CONCESSION III WITH ACCOMPANYING ADULT

Offer reserved to concession III (sight-impaired) customers holding the "Mod. 28 T/C" card who travel with an accompanying person. It involves the issuing of a ticket valid for two persons.

When travelling by ES*, ES* City, AV or couchette/WL, only one ticket is issued and valid for two persons. The amount equals the price of the service requested plus a service change at full price.

The Excelsior and Excelsior E4 carriages are excluded from the reductions The conditions of the Base ticket apply to tickets issued under this offer. When on board, as well as the journey ticket, you must show the "Mod. 28/C" pass and a valid identity document of both the sight-impared customer and his/her accompanying companion.

SPECIAL CONCESSION VIII 30% ISOLATED JOURNEYS

Offer reserved to holders of "Concessione VIII" (seriously injured war- and service veterans) in possession of a "libretto da viaggio modello I" (No. 36), "model I bis" (No. 37) or the "modello I ter" (No. 38) who travel alone. It allows 20% off the ordinary fare (for the IC, ICN, ES*, ES* City, AVtrains or for the couchette service, couchette car and WL also the service change is payable at full price). The Excelsior and Excelsior E4 carriages are excluded from the reductions

The conditions of the Base ticket apply to tickets issued under this offer. When on board, as well as the journey ticket, you must show the concession document and a valid identity document of the holder.

SPECIAL CONCESSION VIII 30% WITH ACCOMPANYING ADULT

Offer reserved for Concession VIII holders (seriously injured war- and service veterans) with "modello I" (no. 36) or "modello I bis" (no. 37) travelling with an accompanying person. Allows 30% off the ordinary fare, and ticket issue for two persons.

When using IC and ICN trains, one ticket is issued, valid for two persons, the amount of which is equal to a journey with ordinary fare discounted by 30% plus a service change at full price. On ES*, ES* City, AV trains and couchette and WL service, one ticket is issued, which is valid for two persons and the amount of which is equal to a journey with ordinary fare discounted by 30% plus two service changes at full price.

The Excelsior and Excelsior E4 carriages are excluded from the reductions. The Base ticket conditions apply to tickets issued under this offer. When on board, as well as the journey ticket, you must show the concession document and a valid identity document of both the holder and the accompanying person.

FAMILIA OFFER

Offer intended for journeys of family groups of 3-5 persons composed of at least 1 adult and 1 child of under 12 years. It includes the ticket booking (free) and provides the following discounts:

50% (30% for Couchette and Wagon Lits) for children under 12

20% for the other persons

Net of the discount, the minimum price is at least 10 euro for each passenger aged over 12, subject to the minimum fares for the train used.

The offer has limited seats availability, the numbers of which vary depending on the day, train and class.

Trains you can use this solution on:

AV, ES*, ES* City, IC, ICN, Express, couchettes and WL. The Familia offer cannot be used for journeys on the Excelsior and Excelsior E4 carriages, or for single journeys on the regional trains. The discount extends to the Regional trains too only for journey solutions that allow the use of Regional trains connecting with trains for which the offer is valid.

Refunds

SAME-DAY RETURN OFFER

Under the “Same-Day Return” offer, you can buy return tickets for journeys made on the same day, in both classes and on all the services of AV and ES* called Frecciarossa and Frecciargento, at these set prices:

  • 149.00 € in 1st class
  • 99.00 € in 2nd class

These prices are not applied to the services for which a lower basic return fare applies.

There are no limitations to the number of places available.

The offer is valid only for direct journeys made on only one train and cannot be added on to other reductions, including those applied to children.

You can buy the offer until midnight on the day before the train's departure at the station ticket desks, authorised travel agencies, self-service machines, this site and by calling the Call Center (charges apply), also with Ticketless procedure.

10 JOURNEY BOOKLET (CARNET)

You can buy the Booklet for 10 Journeys, in 1st or 2nd class, in both directions for a specific section on the Frecciarossa and Frecciargento trains. The 10 journeys included in the booklet are discounted by 20% with respect to the standard fare.

The booklet is personal and you can buy it only if you hold the Carta Viaggio or the Carta Freccia. If you do not hold these cards, you can apply for one. For the immediate purchase, you will be given a temporary code.

You can buy it with the ticketless procedure at the approved travel agencies, on this site or by calling the Call Center (charges apply). The ticket desks and self-service machines will sell them temporarily in printed format. After that phase, they will be sold only through the ticketless procedure, also through those same channels.

You can use the booklet to make bookings within 90 days from its issue date, using the special booklet code, at any ticket office, the issuing agency, the self-service machines, our Call Center and on this site. Tickets are issued with the ticketless procedure (or with issue of booking coupon for ticket desks and self-service machines during the first phase).

Refunds

Refunds can be requested with a deduction charge of 20% before starting to use the booklets, at any ticket office or the issuing travel agency.

Refunds are not granted if an individual journey is not taken.

If you cannot make the journey through the fault of Trenitalia, by order of a public authority or due to a strike, you are entitled to a full refund of the single ticket (one tenth of the booklet price).

Access to other trains

When on board, customers must exhibit the card that the booklet is linked to and notify the booklet code (or, in the first phase, the card booklet issued by a ticket desk or self-service teller) and, on request of the crew, must show a valid identity document.

The same fare corrections are applied as for the Basic ticket.

MINI OFFER

Trains included in the offer

AV, ES*, ES*city, IC, ICN, Express Trains, couchettes and sleeping carriage services. Excelsior and Excelsior E4 are not included.

Prices

With different discount rates on the base fare, for both 1 st and 2 nd class. You will be offered the best price available upon purchasing.

In any case, the minimum fares for the selected train apply.

Ticket

It can be purchased up to two days before departure of the selected train. The number of seats available for each price level is limited and can vary . The discount cannot be cumulated with other reductions, including children reduction. If your journey also involves travelling on trains that are not included in the offer, separate tickets must be purchased. The ticket cannot be issued if the seat is not guaranteed and it is not possible to book a seat in the lounge area under this offer.

Booking/ticket change

Booking/ticket change is possible only once from the day the ticket/booking is issued and up to midnight of the day before departure, solely at ticket desks at train stations or at the travel agency where the ticket was issued. You are only allowed to change the departure date or time for the same category of train or service, subject to a change fee (equal to the difference to the corresponding full base price) and only for a journey to take place after the one booked. The new ticket will have the same characteristics as the Mini ticket. Tickets bought on this site cannot be changed online. For ticketless tickets, go directly to the station ticket desk or the issuing agency; as for tickets that need to be picked up at the self-service machine, you need to pick up the printed ticket and then go to the ticket desk.

Access to other trains

You are not allowed to travel on trains other than the one you booked, otherwise y ou will be deemed to be travelling without a valid ticket.

Refund

Refunds are allowed:

- Up to midnight of the day before departure, with 50% deduction, solely at station ticket desks or at the travel agency where the ticket was purchased.

You are not entitled to a refund after such time.

Refunds are not granted if the journey is simply interrupted.

Refunds are not granted for tickets of less than or equal to 10 euro for each traveler. For ticketless tickets and tickets purchased via the self-service procedure but not yet picked up (this applies to tickets that cannot be purchased via the ticketless solution), you can request a refund by using the online refund service on this website (only for tickets purchased on this site and for refunds of the full purchase), by calling Trenitalia's Call Center (non-toll free numbers) or by sending an e-mail to  rimborsi@trenitalia.it . After pickup (a function available only for tickets that cannot be purchased via the ticketless procedure), you need to submit your request to any ticket desk at the train station. Refunds are given by re-credit on the credit card used for the purchase.

 

For ticketless tickets bought at a travel agency, refunds can be requested at the issuing agency or at ticket desks; or, if the agency is closed, as an alternative to the ticket desk, you can phone Trenitalia's Call Center (non-toll free numbers), which will give you the address to which you must send the refund request within the following 24 hours.

SABATO ITALIANO

If you are planning to travel until 25th February 2012 you can avail of the great offer “Sabato Italiano”, which allows you to travel on Saturdays with a one-way ticket valid for two people, at the full base price for one person, both in 1st and 2nd class, on all national trains and on international trains, only for stretches of line inside Italy.

Couchette and sleeping carriage services, Excelsior and Excelsior E4 are not included in the offer. You can book this offer up until the day before departure, at ticket desks at train stations, authorised travel agencies, self-service ticket machines, on this website or through our Call Centre (non-toll free number).

The number of seats available is limited and varies according to the train and class booked. The offer cannot be cumulated with other reductions and offers, including children reduction.

No tickets are issued without seat guarantee and no seats can be booked in the lounges through this offer.
